Ben Rosenblum Trio

Stacks Image 9
Award-winning New York City jazz pianist Ben Rosenblum debuts at the White Barn with Eduardo Belo on bass and Ben Zweig on drums. The multi-instrumentalist Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years,” (Sea of Tranquility) and an “impressive talent” (All About Jazz), who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Downbeat Magazine). Drawing from a repertoire that includes selections from the jazz and popular music traditions, as well as global music influences, the trio combines Rosenblum's modern sensibility with his broad knowledge of a variety of musical lineages from the past hundred years. The band never repeats the same program twice in a row; every show is a unique experience shaped by the audience and the setting. Since the release of his debut album, “Instead” (4 stars, Downbeat), Rosenblum has toured extensively with his trio in the United States and abroad.

Silent Film: Sunrise

Stacks Image 9
Join us for a rare screening of Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans , F.W. Murnau’s luminous silent masterwork from 1927. The first of the director's American pictures, this restored print is a virtuosic display of visual storytelling and a testament to an artistry that was all but lost with the onset of the talkie era. Part bucolic idyll, part dynamic city symphony, the movie (which includes the original sound-on-film synchronized musical score and sound effects) charts the folly and redemption of a country farmer torn between his loving wife and the temptations of a big-city vamp. David Garden Jr. will give a short presentation before the show. Running time: one hour and 35 minutes.
